1949 Earl Flanders shown in typical Jack Pine Surroundings - the scene is Rifle River

Cover: Earl Flanders of Pasadena, Calif., last year's Jack Pine champion, is shown in typical Jack Pine surroundings as he defended his title in this year's enduro. The scene is Rifle River - that cold, swift current included in every Jack Pine run. Flanders failed to carry the cow bell back to California, letting it fall into the hands of Bert Cummings of Bay City, Mich. Notice Flander's "feet-up" ride - the mark of experience. He knows that water's cold!
