1969 Kawasaki Mach III - Tricycle.

Three cylinders. 500cc's worth. Two strokes. The Mach III. Bitchin'. We tested it. Through the traps at Southern California drag strips. We tested it with our guys. And other pros from around the circuit. Over a hundred times with no rest, at an average of 105 in a hair over 12 seconds. Much faster than any other stock motorcycle, regardless of class. Then they ran it for top speed. some got to 119 with no problem. Other, 125. Stock.

The outsiders said it was the smoothest running machine they'd ever thrown a leg over. They were impressed. They wanted to see the engine. So we let them. Each of the three cylinders is set 120 degrees apart on the crankshaft. That gives you more power strokes per revolution. (One third more than a twin and two thirds more than a single.) And the more power strokes per revolution you get, the smoother the engine...
