1975 BMW - It's different because its Better

It's a cornering fiend. Ride one, and you're hooked. With its flat twin engine and shaft-drive, the BMW is different from most motorcycles. It's not different to be different, mind you. It's different to be better. Take that flat twin engine, for example. By concentrating the major engine parts low, the center of gravity is kept low. So the bike handles better...The BMW. It's different because it's better. Find out why. See the entire line of BMW motorcycles - the R60/6, R75/6, R90/6 and phenomenala R90S - at your local dealer.

1967 Vintage BMW motorcycle - when BMW riders meet, they become friends

In lion country near Mt. Kilimanjaro we met Russ of Salt Lake City. We rode the African veldt together for seven weeks before our trails parted in Rhodesia. Later Arlene and I received a letter from our friend, Russ Scovile, Associate Director of the Peace Corps in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: "...When I left you at Karila Dam I continued south to Basutoland and Swaziland before riding north again towards East Africa and Ethiopia. Seventeen thousand miles in four months. I carried full camping gear and a week's supply of food. My R27 needed only a speedometer cable, a set of points, a spark plug, and a front fender job (my fault) during that period." -From Danny Liska's diary of his trip from the North Cape in Norway to the South Cape at the Southern tip of Africa - 40,000 miles on his BMW R60.

1970 BMW Introduces Quicksilver

The most potent hunk of shimmery, silvery, two-wheeled machinery ever to streak its way out of Bavaria. The new BMW comes on strong. Very strong. Very fast. Around town. On the highway. Even in the rough. And riders who once thought of BMW as just a beautifully-crafted touring bike are wondering what got into the younger generation. One answer is a massive dose of new horsepower from a completely new version of our famed horizontal twin-cylinder engine. Your choic of 500, 600, ore 750 cc. BMW's more logical flat-twin layout givesw better balance. Plus more exposure to air, for better cooling. Less friction, for longer engine life. Less vibration, so you can ride longer with less fatigue. Built for street, sport, and dependable long distance touring, the new BMW is lighter, more agile. Higher off the ground. You can lean into a corner at 45'. But what if you don't like silver? Even quicksilver? Okay. You can also get the new BMW in quickwhite and quickblack!

1961 BMW driveshaft cleverly concealed within the swinging arm unit

See the built-in values. Did you know that BMW is practically the only motorcycle manufactured today that uses an automotive-type driveshaft with ring and pinion gear? This BMW driveshaft, cleverly concealed within the swinging arm unit shown in this photo, requires no maintenance whatsoever, runs in an oil bath sealed at both ends against leakage and dust. Years of trouble-free performance with this BMW feature.(Note those husky rear suspension units, which are easily adjustable by hand for added comfort whenever mi-lady is aboard your BMW). To find out more about BMW's famed driveshaft, the cleanliness, safety and economy of maintenance of this unique motorcycle, just ask any BMW owner.

1968 Vintage BMW Motorcycle Ad: Why Johnny will buy the 1975 BMW

Johnny is only nine. He's eager. He'd like to be zooming along on a motorcycle. Instead he has to pretend. Johnny has had motorcycle experience. He watched his dad start by owning other motorcycles and finally graduate to a BMW. So at age nine he also has compared other motorcycles and knows and feels how a BMW performs. It's the best. It's smooth. It's strong. It's clean. It's trouble-free. It's respected. In 1975, Johnny will probably inherit dad's BMW. If not - he'll buy his own.

In the African desert both the BMW and the camel offer dependable, quiet, economical transportation of amazing endurance. Arlene, my courageous wife, tried both. She preferred the motorcycle. 1989 BMW R100RS - The 300,000 Mile motorcycle club

The BMW 200,000-mile motorcycle club has a 300,000 mile rival. In a world where most motorcycles are destined to become scrap metal after fewer than 25,000 miles, it's not unknown for BMW's to log six-figure mileages. A fact which helps explain the well-known BMW 200,000 Mile Motorcycle Club. What may surprise you, however, is that there is also a BMW 300,000-Mile Motorcycle Club. What is it about BMW motorcycles like the R100RS above that allows them to cover such extraordinary distances?.....

1983 BMW Motorcycles - a production line with 2 speeds: slow & stop

Ride a motorcycle that didn't break any speed records on the assembly line. Today there are any number of motorcycles that will rocket through the quarter-mile in a hair-raising 13 seconds. Or less. All the more reason to consider how fast these same machines are rocketing through the factory. On any average day Suzuki, for example will whisk out 7000 bikes. Yamaha, 10000. And Honda, an eyebrow raising 14,000. Eyebrow-raising, at least to the engineers at BMW. Who have long believed that mass production leads to mass compromise. And who have avoided those compromises by maintaining a stern speed limit on the manufacture of BMW's. A speed limit that sees fewer than 150 motorcycles inch their way out of the Bavarian Motor Works on any given day.

A production line with two speeds: Slow and Stop. The Bavarian Motor Works is one of those rare places where a worker is more likely to be reprimanded for working too fast as opposed to too slow. And where craftsmen are still proud enough to sign their work...

The legendary motorcycles of Germany. BMW.
