1964 BSA News - New Twin-Carb BSA 40 inchers - Spitfire Hornet & Lightning Rocket

BSA now has two new speed models for the American motorcyclist. Both machines are husky 40 inchers of unit-construction type with a full house of new speed equipment built in at the factory. Basically similar, each model has its own special features.

1964 BSA Spitfire Hornet - Looking every inch a competition model with its fibre-glass racing tank and stripped-for-action appearance, this potent BSA is intended for motorcycling sport in high-spirited form. For top power output, BSA supplies this speedster with a newly designed full-race camshaft, new high-compression pistons, the new dual-carburetor cylider head, and straight-through exhaust system as shown in the picture above. No lights are installed but lighting coils are built in for a direct lighting set if the owner desires this later.

1964 BSA Lightning Rocket - With their eye on the sports rider, BSA has equipped this fast roadster with new magnetic tachometer and speedometer on twin mount, a "Gold Star" racing tank, racing fenders, and brilliant finish with many parts in sparkling chrome or polished alloy. Especially good looking is the massive engine gear unit which is highly polished.

Both Models, the BSA Spitfire Hornet & the BSA Lightning Rocket - BSA engineers have designed an entirely new power kit for these models, using a high-efficiency twin port head with dual carburetion, a new full-racing camshaft, new high-compression pistons, and a new heavy-base cylinder barrel to obtain a free-breathing, extremely rigid engine which develops maximum power. Both machines also have new high-alloy steel gear sets, and improved clutches to handle the extra horses. Gold Star type racing brakes are fitted together with Gold Star quick detachable rear wheel. New Dunlop "Road-Hug" tires make for improved road adhesion.

New Twin-Carburetor Cylinder Head: Newly designed, this racing type head is a high-efficiency hemispherical pattern with free-flow intake and exhaust ports, large valves and racing springs. Working with the new full-race camshaft, this head gives both new BSA sport model 650s the highest possible power output.
