For the 2nd year in a row Roger Reiman, Kewanee Illinois #1 rider, mounted on a Harley-Davidson, beat all comers in the 200 mile Daytona Road Race in a driving rain storm. On the straight-away Reiman's speed topped 130 mph; Reiman's average speed was 90.04 mph.
Mert Lawwill, San Francisco, California, came in second for a one/two win in the 200 mile classic. Lawwill, Harley-Davidson mounted, steamed through the driving rain for second place, 40 seconds behind Reiman.
In the Amateur event, rider Wayne Cook, Harley-Davidson mounted, bested the entire field and set a new record with an average speed of 92.43 mph.
Another year of racing opens with a sweeping victory by Harley-Davidson at Daytona.
