Weatherly began riding competition in 1946...he captured his first national title in 1948, winning the 100 mi. road race at Laconia, N.H. and setting a new record for this event...1949 was Joe's best season during which he placed third in the 100 mi. National at Langhorne, Pa.... Second in the 8 mi. National at Reading, Pa....He repeated at Laconia's 100 mi. National last year thus winning this event two years in a row...
