Paul Goldsmith on a Harley-Davidson model K wins and sets new record in Daytona 200-mile National Championship.
Two miles ahead of his nearest competitor, Paul Goldsmith and his sweet-singing Harley-Davidson Model K roared to victory in the classic 200-Mile National Championship at Daytona Beach, Fla., March 15, 1953.
New Record! In winning, Paul set a new record for the star-studded event, sweeping around the beach and road oval in a startling 2 hours, 7 minutes and .33 of a second! This knocks off two minutes and 15.38 seconds from the old record. The speed record is 94.45 MPH! Man! That's moving!
This was Goldsmith's sweetest race. Riding a well-timed, consistent race, Paul pushed his "K" ahead in the 25th lap and stayed there to the end. This great victory can be summed up in just a few words - in fact - Goldsmith's very own words at the finish:
"This job rode wonderfully - she can go!"
