"Francis Beart - a Single Purpose" by Jeff Clew. 1st edition 1978 Haynes Publishing, 208 page hardcover with DJ, 7" x 10"
Everyone with a real and long-standing interest in motorcycle racing will be familiar with the name of Francis Beart. He prepared those wonderful apple-green Manx Nortons and AJS 7Rs that took the chequered flag in so many of the great motorcycle races of the forties, fifties and early-sixties when the big single was dominant. Although never one to search out the limelight, Francis Beart made a contribution to our motorcycling heritage that is so immense it could not be allowed to pass unrecorded...
...Here we have a story which brings to life again the atmosphere of those great days when the sound and sight of highly-tuned singles lent real charisma to motorcycle and F3 racing. A story so broad that it touches on great motorcycle manufacturers, contemporary races, speed trials and endurance events, great riders and drivers, the demise of Brooklands...It's all here.
The cover photograph shows Jack Findlay aboard a 350 Beart Aermacchi, rounding Ramsay Hairpin during the 1969 Junior TT.
