1961 Photos of Motorcycle Racing World Champions





Vintage ad published in 1962.

All Four World's Championships won on Avon and in all, 38 classic events in 1961.

Motorcyclists shown:

G. Hocking - Senior (500cc) and Junior (350cc) World Champion. Winner of German, French, Belgian, East German. Ulster and Swedish Grands Prix, and Dutch TT (500cc), East German, Ulster and Italian Grand Prix, and Dutch TT (350cc).

T. Phillis - Ultra Lightweight (125cc) World Champion. Winner of Argentine, French and Spanish Grands Prix, and Dutch TT (125cc).

M. Hailwood - Lightweight (250cc) World Champion. Winner of East German and Swedish Grands Prix, Dutch TT and Isle of Man TT (250cc).

1963 AAMRR Vineland Road Race Pictures & Article

The Association of American Motorcycle Road Racers held its second spectator event at the 1.7 mile Vineland, NJ race circuit Saturday and Sunday September 21 and 22...

Photo captions:

AAMRR members on their stock road equipment get off to their 10-lap final. Robert Film, riding a BMW 600, won the race after Eddie Moran, leading on a Norton Manxman was black-flagged for trailing a loose muffler...

Sidecar boys in action on one of the turns. Here the eventual winners, Jeno Fulop and George Nagy of Canada, lead at the halfway mark.

George Rockett, 250 heat winner and favored to win the final, finished a close second on his Yamaha Twin.

Chuck Gardner rides his Ducati Diana out of the chicane at Vineland on his way to win the 250cc 15-lap final.

Big Ed LaBelle, winner of the 500cc final on a Norton Manx, is shown here practicing on his MV Agusta, which he had entered in the under-200 class.
