"Rode 103 Miles Today!" - Not too far, one thinks, until reminded that the year is 1913 and the motorcycle a Reading Standard with wicker side car. The trip begins in Rockford, Illinois, Saturday, August 9, 1913, at 6:45 a.m. Tom and Gertrude Pearman start an 800 mile adventure across Illinois and Indiana where roads are sometimes "fine" (meaning no wagon ruts in which to get the wheel of your side car caught); or roads are "spooky" or they consist of quicksand, mud, and water. No road signs at all are expected, and none are found...
