1960 Peoria National Championship TT races

Between 15 and 20 thousand people watched Joe Leonard win the 45 cu. in. title and Bart Markel the 30 cu. in. championship in the 14th running of the Peoria national championship TT races..

Leonard wins 45", 80" to Markel; Resweber again National Champ by scant 4 points.

Photos:

Top left: Lack of Rain made Peoria dustier than usual, so it was important to get into that first turn ahead of the pack. Passing was a mighty tough job.

Center right: Holding trophy emblematic of 45" Peoria win, Joe Leonard is surrounded by (from left) AMA Secretary Lin Kuchler, tuner Monte Miller and dealer Bruce Walters.

Bottom left: Joe Leonard slides around Bart Markel in the 45" National as Roger Reiman follows closely. Joe won easily, setting a new record time for the event.

Bottom center: Still the number one man, Carroll Resweber smiles as he poses for much-decorated east coast rider who looks more like an actor than a photographer.

Top Right: Leonard leads Dick Mann and Ed Kretz, Jr., in second lap of 80" heat.
