Walt Fulton, popular Texas rider cheered by 7500 for spectacular victory.



Five thousand cycling fans watched Bob Sandgren make history at America's premier motorcycling event - the 8th Annual Catalina Grand Prix at Catalina Island, California. Mounted on the same Triumph TR-6 with which he won last year's Catalina Sweepstakes, Bob flashed into the lead right from the start.

Don Hawley amazed the crowd by leading eight other Triumph Cub riders to a fast, spectacular victory in the 200cc event over a field of competitors that included 32 larger capacity 250cc machines. Don finished 1st overall in Saturday's race.



Special Catalina Issue! Charlie Wheat as he jumps his BSA Road Rocket off the golf course pit area onto a dirt trail during the running of the sixth annual Catalina Grand Prix Sunday, May 6.
