Randy Mamola (26) leads Dale Singleton, Mike Baldwin (43), Gene Romero (3), Wes Cooley (34), Richard Schlacter (48), and Mike Cone (47) at the start of the Pocono 750 final. Mamola retired with mechanical problems while running fifth after 12 laps.
Mike Baldwin received a trophy for being fast qualifier at Pocono, went on to win the final.
When Kenny Roberts arrived in Europe, some people doubted he could do well in his first year of Grand Prix competition. When he left, he was World Champion.
